ps. You'll get an email confirmation saying that you're allowed to bring at least one guest. If at least half of us do this, then we could bring the last half as guests!
I think the stonesthrow event for tonight requires everyone to RSVP, so I'm not sure the list of names I submitted is valid. It's probably better if all you guys EMAIL [email protected] saying that you wish to attend the Stonesthrow 102 Release party.

Hey guys, I'm a little late to post this, and I nearly forgot about it, but the stonesthrow 102 dvd came out this past Tueday; furthermore, there's an event this friday in celebrating its release!! They're goin to screen the dvd and have a QnA, along with some djing by Egon and more!
Lots of free stuff: -open bar -beverages -pop corn -imeem photo booth -free entry (w/rvsp)! -chance to win the 102 dvds If you're a big stonesthrow fan (like I), you should come out!!! ps. I think it's 18+! Unfortunately there aren't many news channels or media outlets [in the mainstream] that provide anything close to sensible coverage of the issues confronting us in the world as a whole... and simply within our own backyards. Our news media serves, instead of being liable sources of information for the general public, an elite group. They work to misinform and spread propaganda already fed to us through our institutions and so called leaders. Therefore it is vital to have some knowledge of alternative media outlets that offer a variety of scope (from the war in Iraq to public education in LA to the music scene in Brasil) and perspectives.
Here are just a few: Al Jazeera an Arabian television network noted for providing dissident views on issues like the Iraqi war and issues in the Middle East. It has gained enemies in America as well as in the countries it serves to inform. Obviously, it has its biases, but it serves as important voice for the Arab community. Indymedia Check this sight out for news story of local grass roots activism usually ignored in the mainstream media. Link TV WAY better than PBS! Pretty much the only American TV station that I know that has original programming, offers different perspectives on global and national news, as well as offering various cultural programs throughout the world (great way to checkout the conscious global music scene). National Public Radio Consider this the radio version of PBS. Except with more news and no Elmo. Press TV An Iranian news station. As Iran is a hotspot right now (future US occupation possibilities) it is important for us to get their side of the story. Reason ...is pretty much the voice of the libertarian. You might not agree with their views but I find Reason to be refreshing when juxtaposed to our homogenized "two" party system of politics that never seems to offer anything new. World News This site gathers articles from news outlets throughout the globe. Even articles about America are many times provided through an outside lens; which can help us see much that we are blind to or would never get to hear in the states. If you know of any more sites that you frequent for your news, please do inform! - Rudy Duriez 3 comments:

Though I definitely agree that many people in the western world, and many rich urban centres outside of it (Tokyo, Singapore..etc) don't always see past their small bubble of life, it doesn't mean that their concerns/feelings are illegitimate. We must find balance between being outwardly conscious and self aware; both the world and the ego need catering. Nonetheless..I do finding rather annoying when people that lead rather comfortable affluent lives complain about any little thing...being unable to buy the new trendy item included. It's been awhile since I've made an entry, but because I've been so busy lately I haven't had the time to post new news, upload any pictures or find time to relax (which really sucks). But after a long and tiring week, i was able to find some time to dump some links and drops some news. Enjoy! Be Kind Rewind premiers tonight!!! Jack black impersonating Robo Cop Being such a Michel Gondry fan, I'm dying to see this. ***UPDATE: I just watched it last night... it was great! Although, it is not my favorite Michel Gondry film of all time, I certainly liked it for being such a heartwarming and creative film. Applying childish themes along with community solidarity and historical preservation, Be Kind Rewind is more than rewinding VHS tapes before turning them into the drop-off box. Don't listen to me, just ch-check the film while it's still in theaters!! Here's a site all about white people... Stuff That White People Like Some are funny, some are not, critique for yourself. Here's a site about bad "Engrish." Engrish Q. What is Engrish? A. Engrish can be simply defined as the humorous English mistakes that appear in Japanese advertising and product design. Q. Your site disgusts me. How can you make fun of others like that? They are only trying their best to use English as a second language. A. Please remember that the point of Engrish.com is to have fun with the Engrish phenomenon, not to make fun of (criticize/mock/ridicule) the people who made it. The webmaster has taken great pains not to point out the faults of others or have a discriminatory tone - just to have fun with the results. Engrish.com does its best to stay away from any type of "ha ha – these guys are idiots" lines or insinuations. You will also find that the vast majority of the English examples on Engrish.com were produced by companies - not individuals and that most of the Engrish found within the site is not an attempt to communicate, but are examples of English being used as a design element. At any rate, if anyone can point out anything in the site that is blatantly racist or otherwise uncool (and Engrish.com agrees with you), we will happily change the content of the site. The webmaster further explains that it is also open to collecting other forms of English misspelled words, not necessarily "English-Japanese" spelled words, but other grammatical or spelling errors. The only thing being made fun of really is... English hehe. ("You know what ESL stands for? English is a Stupid Language" ~Rex Navarrete) Here's a site managed by an Angry Asian Man
AngryAsianMan.com In fact I get all my Asian/Asian-American news from this website. Very informative and is VERY aware of Asian/Asian-American/Pacific Islander discriminations that society portrays. If anyone else has any good conscious news-related websites on society, dealing with race, sex, class or gender, or any good news article websites/blogs, send away! I actually haven't been web surfing latley so I actually don't have much to post... But please do enjoy the love. -matt N. the hatt 1 comments:Suanmi said...holy crap i was laughing my ass off at stuff white people like. For all ya'll that are using the Lunar calendar, Happy new year!! If you guys wanna celebrate, there's an event being putting up by FireCracker (http://www.firecracker10k.org/) (Co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Chinatown Business Improvement District (BID)) this Saturday in Chinatown from 10am-10pm and Sunday noon-4pm. http://lacfrc.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=75&Itemid=101 For those of you that are 21+, grandstar's putting up an event: For those of you who aren't, SIPA's putting up a fundraiser event: For The Kid In You "Who is hosting this party? This party is going to be hosted by Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA). SIPA is located in Historic Pilipinotown and its mission is to enhance the quality of life of Filipino Americans and other communities through youth development, health, economic, and social services. Why is SIPA hosting a party? Good question. SIPA is throwing this party for two reasons. The first reason is to get the college Pilipino organizations from the SoCal area to come together and have fun. There aren't many events that try to do that. The second reason is that we want to create an awareness about what SIPA does for the community. The funds raised from this party will go towards creating better programming for the youth of the surrounding communities." Tiger Lily 1745 N. March 8th Against the War! GABNet (Gabriela Network) USA, in coordination with the Mariposa Alliance, called today on all women and women's organizations to restore March 8th, International Women's Day, to its proper historical and political context by asserting women's opposition to the US war in Iraq and Afghanistan. GABNet pointed to 1913 as the year when the true essence of International Women's Day was most overt. In that year, European women held multiple rallies against the looming World War I; in the same year, a black suffragette marched for the first time with white feminists in Washington DC, calling for women's right to vote; and in the same year, the women of Petrograd, Russia, launched an uprising against the Tsar. International Women's Day, said GABNet, was never meant to be a simple commemorative day. It is meant to be the day when "women's voices are meant to be the loudest, women's stand" on political issues, both national and international, most vividly manifested. All chapters of both GABNet and the Mariposa Alliance are gearing up for activities -- ranging from marches to forums -- around the theme of MARCH 8TH AGAINST THE WAR. In LOS ANGELES, march & rally to show that WOMEN SAY NO TO WAR! Saturday, March 8th 11:00AM, Olympic & Broadway Downtown Los Angeles FOR MORE INFORMATION: [email protected], www.gabnet.org queen herstory |
